MOSCOW. March 22 (Interfax) - Russia will announce its measures in response to the sanctions imposed by the European Union over the case of Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
"You know that the path of sanctions isn't our choice. But, naturally, we will react to sanctions, and this isn't a secret to those who are trying to unleash a sanctions race. We will take appropriate measures and will announce them," Grushko told reporters in Moscow on Monday.
On March 2, the EU and the United States announced sanctions against a number of high-ranking Russian officials due to the Navalny situation.
The EU's sanctions list includes head of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, Russian Guard Director Viktor Zolotov, and Federal Penitentiary Service Director Alexander Kalashnikov.
The measures ban these persons from traveling to EU countries and freeze their bank assets in the EU.
