Germany displaying solidarity with Ukraine - Zelensky after meeting with Scholz

KYIV. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Ukraine and Germany share the view that an escalation of tension on the Ukrainian-Russian border is dangerous to Europe and the rest of the world, even despite some differences in views between Kyiv and Berlin on certain problems, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

"Indeed, Ukraine and Germany might have different views on certain problems, but we clearly share the view that an escalation [...] poses an unprecedented and dangerous challenge to Europe and the whole world. I was convinced of this yet again today, after having a meaningful conversation with German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz," Zelensky said on his Facebook account on Monday.

Zelensky described Scholz's visit to Kyiv before travelling to Moscow as a show of solidarity with Ukraine and highlighted the importance of a common vision on a peaceful approach with the German leader.

Ukraine and Germany will continue to strengthen their partnership at various levels, Zelensky said. "I am grateful to Germany for its willingness to develop renewable energy sources in Ukraine and invest in other industries," he said.

Ukraine and Germany also plan to organize the fifth Ukrainian-German economic forum in 2022 to promote cooperation, Zelensky said.

"I am thankful to Germany for immediately allotting 150 million euros for Ukraine. Mr. Scholz, Germany's support has been and will be very important to us," he said.
