West's decision to supply modern arms to Ukraine is 'tectonic shift' in its attitude to Kyiv - Ukrainian FM

KYIV. Feb 15 (Interfax) - The decision to supply an unprecedented amount of weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces marks a drastic change in the West's attitude toward Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

"Recently, Ukraine has received an unprecedented amount of modern weapons from partners for our army. And it is not so much these weapons, but, above all, it is this political signal and, what is even more important, this tectonic shift in the West's attitude toward Ukraine. Let's recall 2014, when it was effectively a taboo to supply weapons to Ukraine so that it could defend itself from a Russian attack. But we have lifted this taboo," Kuleba said at an online press briefing on Tuesday.

By providing Ukraine with increased political, military and economic support, the Western democratic world demonstrates that it sees Ukraine as its part, the minister said.

"When Ukraine encounters threats, the West will stand shoulder to shoulder with us and will take specific steps, which has eloquently been proven over the past few months," he said.

In particular, Kuleba thanked Canada for its decision to extend over $6 million in extra security assistance to Ukraine.
