KYIV. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida have had a telephone call to discuss the situation in the region, its peaceful settlement in a diplomatic way, and infrastructural projects.
"Had my first phone conversation with Prime Minister of Japan Kishida. Discussed the current situation in the region, security challenges, consolidation of international efforts, peaceful settlement through diplomatic channels, infrastructure projects. Grateful to Japan for supporting Ukraine," Zelensky wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said earlier that Japan favored a diplomatic settlement of the crisis surrounding Ukraine but might impose sanctions on Russia if the tensions escalate. In this situation, the Japanese government would act in coordination with the other G7 members and the international community, he said.
