MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Peacekeeping cooperation between the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the United Nations will be discussed at a UN Security Council meeting on February 16, CSTO press secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov said.
"The meeting will address ways of developing cooperation between the two organizations, considering the weighty role played by the CSTO in the provision of security in Eurasia. It is planned to emphasize the countering of terrorist and drug threats, including those coming from Afghanistan, and the prospective involvement of the CSTO in the peacekeeping operations of the United Nations," Zainetdinov told reporters on Tuesday.
CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas will take part in the videoconference to be chaired by Russia, he said.
The theme of the meeting is "cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional organizations to support world peace and security: cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization," Zainetdinov said.
