Duma vote on DPR/LPR recognition relied on public opinion - Putin

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - The Russian Duma vote on the recognition of the Donetsk (DPR) and Luhansk (LPR) People's Republics took public opinion into account, the region's problems should be resolved in accordance with the Minsk Agreements, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"The deputies in parliament, like those in any country, orient themselves toward public opinion, orient themselves toward their voters' opinion, and they subtly feel it," Putin told a press conference after talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday.

"It is completely obvious that in our country, a vast majority of people sympathize with Donbas residents, support them, and hope that the situation will change drastically for the better for them," Putin said.

"We must do everything for Donbas' problems to be solved, but do so, as the Federal Chancellor was saying, primarily in accordance with the not-yet-fully-realized potential of implementing the Minsk Agreements," he said.
