Russia refused to attend OSCE Ukraine meeting due to absence of significant military activity

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Russia has refused to attend an Organization for Security and Co-operation (OSCE) meeting on Ukraine because it is not conducing any significant military activity that requires notice under the Vienna Document 2011, the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday.

"We could have left this request without consideration since it contains unacceptable wordings on the status of Crimea. At the same time, reaffirming our commitment to openness in the military sphere, we communicated that Russia was conducting no 'extraordinary' activity near Ukraine's borders, as mentioned in Chapter III of the Vienna Document 2011, and therefore there was no reason to launch the risk reduction mechanism," Zakharova said in a reply to a question from the media, published on the ministry's website.
