MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Over 15 naval ships and more than 30 aircraft are involved in a Russian Navy exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"More than 15 naval ships of the Pacific, Northern and Black Sea Fleets, in particular, the Varyag and Marshal Ustinov missile cruisers and the Admiral Kasatonov and Admiral Grigorovich frigates, the Admiral Tributs and Vice Admiral Kulakov large anti-submarine ships, and support vessels, as well as more than 30 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are involved in an exercise in the Mediterranean Sea," the Defense Ministry said.
Navy Commander Nikolai Yevmenov reported to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu "on the performance of joint training and combat exercises by Russian ships and aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces in defeating mock enemy groups of ships," the ministry said.
Additionally, the exercise involved firing practice at naval and air targets using artillery and anti-submarine weapons, the Defense Ministry said.
