Chisinau, Moscow agree talks on Transdniestrian settlement in 5+2 format need to be resumed

CHISINAU. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko have discussed regional security, the Transdniestrian settlement, and development of bilateral cooperation in Chisinau on Tuesday, the press service for the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

According to the press service, interest in resuming talks on the Transdniestrian settlement in the 5+2 format was expressed during the meeting.

"Popescu reiterated the stance of the Moldovan authorities on the need to resume the withdrawal of Russian troops and evacuation or elimination of ammunition from the depot in Cobasna. In this context, Moldova's readiness to search for joint solutions on these tracks was confirmed," it said.

The consultations of Russian and Moldovan deputy foreign ministers took place in Chisinau on Tuesday. The Russian delegation will head to Transdniestria in the evening. The delegation will meet with Transdniestrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky and Tiraspol's main negotiator, Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatyev, on Wednesday.
