MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Russia wants no war, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"With regard to whether or not we want it [a war in Europe]. Of course not! That is precisely why we proposed a negotiation process, which should result in an agreement to ensure equal security for all, including our country," Putin told a press conference after talks with the German chancellor in Moscow on Tuesday.
Reacting to Scholz' remarks about any war in Europe being unthinkable, in reference to the situation around Ukraine, Putin said: "But we did witness a war in Europe, which was started precisely by NATO against Yugoslavia. The big military operation with bombs and missiles dropped on a European capital, Belgrade. It happened!"
The president recalled that NATO carried out its military operation against Yugoslavia without sanction from the UN Security Council. "This is a very bad example, but it happened," Putin said.
