Ukraine proposes convening emergency TCG meeting on Donbas

KYIV. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) has asked the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)'s representative in the TCG to urgently convene consultations over the Russian State Duma's decision on potential recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed Donbas republics, the delegation stated on Telegram on Tuesday.

"Following today's submission by the Russian parliament, regarding the recognition of the so-called LDPRs [Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics], the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG asked the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office's representative in Ukraine, the OSCE representative to the TCG, to urgently convene extraordinary TCG consultations to obtain official information from the Russian delegation regarding their position and further steps in light of the Russian legislature's decision," the statement said.

Earlier today, the Duma decided to send an urgent appeal to the Russian president regarding the need to recognize the Donbas republics.
