Ukrainian FM, OSCE chairman agree to promote SMM work in Donbas

KYIV. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba discussed the functioning of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Special Monitoring Mission in Donbas with OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau.

"The OSCE chairman has extensively informed the minister about outcomes of his visit to Moscow. Kuleba informed Zbigniew Rau of the security situation near the border and in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry drew his counterpart's attention to the approval by the Russian parliament of an appeal to the Russian president on recognizing the so-called LDPR [the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics]. The minister reiterated that, if the Russian leadership endorses the relevant decision, this would amount to Russia's deliberate withdrawal from the Minsk Agreements and would have devastating consequences for international law and order and the global security architecture," it said.

Kuleba and Rau agreed to apply as much effort as possible to ensure the proper functioning of the OSCE mission in Ukraine.
