Russia is not an enemy to Western countries - Russian Security Council official

MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Russia is not an adversary to Western countries, and cooperation is possible as long as it is pursued on an equal footing, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Mikhail Popov said.

"Western leaders should realize clearly that Russia is not an adversary to them. It's better to be friends and maintain trade with Russia, but this should be done fairly, equally, and mutually respectfully," Popov said in an interview published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The world "is becoming multi-polar steadily and irreversibly," he said.

"Despite the tense military-political situation, we'd prefer to believe and hope that reason and common sense would prevail over the global ambitions and overconfidence of our Western opponents," he said.
