MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen on February 23 to discuss a settlement in Syria and the provision of humanitarian aid to those in need in that country, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"On February 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with UN Special Envoy for Syria Mr. Pedersen. The two plan to discuss a range of issues related to a Syrian settlement, with an emphasis placed on progress in the political process being moved ahead by the Syrians themselves with the UN's support, including within the framework of the Constitutional Committee in line with UN Security Council resolution 2254," Zakharova said at a press briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.
Lavrov and Pedersen will also discuss more active efforts to provide humanitarian support to Syrians and "the current state of affairs on the ground in Syria and the region," she said.
