BAKU. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov talked by telephone on Wednesday to discuss the situation in the South Caucasus, the bilateral agenda, and Ukraine, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
"The ministers discussed relevant items on the bilateral cooperation agenda," it said.
Bayramov and Lavrov reviewed the situation in the region, including the implementation of the trilateral statements on Karabakh, and exchanged opinions on the current situation in and around Ukraine, it said.
They also discussed interaction within the framework of Azerbaijan's presidency of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation, it said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said later that the ministers discussed relevant matters and prospects for continued development of Russian-Azerbaijani strategic partnership, including a schedule of upcoming contacts.
"They exchanged opinions on a number of regional and international subjects. Special attention was paid to the situation in the South Caucasus, primarily the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In this context they underscored the importance of the strict observance of all provisions of the trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia of November 9, 2020, as well as those of January 11 and November 26, 2021," it said.
The ministers reviewed the discussion of Russian initiatives on ways to ensure durable legal security guarantees.
"They expressed their common opinion on the need to add real substance to the obligations approved at the top level in the OSCE on ensuring equal and indivisible security in the Euro-Atlantic area," it said.
