Kazakh president tasks defense minister with bolstering defense capacities

NUR-SULTAN. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Kazakh Defense Minister Ruslan Zhaksylykov briefed Kazakh President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the Kazakh Armed Forces' reform on Thursday, the presidential press service said.

"The president pointed to the need for comprehensive, systemic development of the Armed Forces and the proper level of their preparedness, and gave a number of instructions aimed at bolstering the national defense capacities," the press service said in a statement published on the presidential website.

Zhaksylykov told Tokayev about the effort towards more effective provision of military security, including the formation of special ops forces.

He also informed the president about the Armed Forces' staffing, the serviceability of weapons and military hardware, and the availability of supplies.

"The Defense Ministry is working on technical rearming of forces together with the national defense industry," the press service said.

In addition, Zhaksylykov reported progress of the Safe Country national project and the fulfillment of instructions aimed at upgrading the structure and staff of the Armed Forces, training troops, continuing digital transformation, developing the military infrastructure and increasing the prestige and appeal of military service.
