Kyiv records dozens of ceasefire breaches by LPR, DPR on Thurs

KYIV. Feb 17 (Interfax) - The headquarters of Kyiv's Joint Forces Operation (JFO) in Donbas accused the militia of committing 29 ceasefire violations since the beginning of Thursday, February 17, using weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreements on 27 occasions.

In particular, militia forces fired 122mm artillery weapons, 120mm mortars and anti-tank grenade launchers in the vicinity of Novotoshkivske, the JFO headquarters said on Facebook. The militia used 120mm mortars, anti-tank grenade launchers and automatic grenade launchers against JFO positions near Vodyane.

According to the report, 82mm mortars were used near the village of Trudovske, 120mm and 82mm mortars, automatic grenade launchers, large-caliber machineguns, and small arms were fired in the vicinity of Starohnativka, and 120mm mortars were used near Stary Aidar and Mariinka.

A woman was injured as a result of strikes in Mariinka, said Proliska humanitarian mission head Yevhen Kaplin, who witnessed the incident.

"A local resident, a woman, born in 1957, was injured during a strike in the village of Mariinka at 9:50 a.m. today. The preliminary information available indicates that a projectile fell in the city center, near a bus stop, not far from Mariinka's School. No. 2, which is located fewer than 100 meters from the office of the Proliska humanitarian mission in Mariinka," Kaplin said on Facebook.

In a separate development, according to the JFO headquarters, 82mm mortars and automatic grenade launchers were fired in the direction of Pivdenny and Mayorsk, 82mm mortars were used near Lobacheve, and anti-tank missile systems were fired in the vicinity of Novoselivka Vtora.

Militia forces used 122mm artillery weapons and 120mm mortars near Luhanske, 120mm mortars near Mariinka, and 120mm mortars and large-caliber machineguns near Svitlodarsk.

According to the JFO report, 120mm and 82mm mortars were used in the vicinity of Troitske, and anti-tank grenade launchers were fired near Popasna and Zeitseve.

The militia fired 120mm mortars in the vicinity of Nevelske and Shumy, 152mm artillery weapons near Novozvanivka, and 120mm mortars near the village of Travneve.

Automatic grenade launchers and 82mm mortars were used near Stanytsia Luhanska, 120mm mortars were fired in the vicinity of Avdiivka, and 82mm mortars were used near Pisky.

One JFO serviceman was injured as a result of strikes and was admitted to hospital. He is in fair condition, the JFO headquarters said.

Earlier, Kyiv accused militia forces in Donbas of firing 122mm heavy artillery weapons on Stanytsia Luhanska in the Luhansk region. The strike damaged a local kindergarten. There were children inside the building when it happened. Three members of the kindergarten's staff suffered a concussion. Strikes also damaged power lines, plunging half of the locality into darkness.

Luhansk and Donetsk, in turn, also accused the Ukrainian Armed Forces of opening fire on localities along the entire contact line. The militia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk (LPR) and Donetsk (DPR) People's Republics returned fire.
