MINSK. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Russian-made S-400 air defense missile systems might be stationed near Minsk, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
Belarus possesses an S-400 system, and Belarusian service members are currently learning to operate it, he said.
"If necessary, we'll station a few more. And that would be quite enough for us. If I'm not mistaken, this weapon sees as far as 600 kilometers. Where will we station it? It detects targets 600 kilometers away," the state-run news agency BelTA quoted Lukashenko as saying on Thursday.
"We might deploy them somewhere east of Minsk or near Minsk, and then we'll see what happens in Kyiv, beyond Warsaw, and so on," he said.
Belarus is negotiating the purchase of several such systems, he said.
At the same time, Lukashenko admitted that the S-300 systems currently possessed by Belarus are enough for its defense.
