Moscow invites Washington to develop new security equation (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Russia favors an integrated approach toward strategic stability and invites the United States to begin developing a new security equation, the Russian written reply to the U.S. concerning proposals on security guarantees says.

"Russia continues to favor an integrated approach toward strategic problems. We propose starting to develop a new 'security equation' together," the document circulated on Thursday and translated by Interfax from Russian says.

Washington has invited Moscow to immediately begin developing measures following up on the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) within the framework of a strategic stability dialogue, the document says. "However, the American side is seeking to secure an approach not coordinated with us and focusing exclusively on nuclear weapons, regardless of the capability of certain assets to pose a direct threat to the other side's national territory," it says.

"This biased mindset is in conflict with the understandings reached at the Russian-U.S. summit in Geneva on June 16, 2021 as regards a comprehensive nature of the strategic dialogue, aimed at laying a foundation for future arms control and risk reduction measures," it says.
