NEW YORK. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Western media and the West in general should stop embarrassing themselves by speculating on the subject of an imaginary Russian invasion of Ukraine, especially now that the "announced date" has passed, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said.
"I would like to express the hope that Western representatives will resist the temptation to please television cameras by turning our meeting today into a platform for unfounded, aggressive verbal exercises and laying out their totally unconfirmed accusations about Russia supposedly going to attack Ukraine," Vershinin told the UN Security Council on Thursday.
"It seems to me, there has already been enough speculation on this topic, including at the US-convened January 31 UN SC session. Whatever needed to be stated and explained, we have already done so long ago. The announced date of the purported invasion has already passed, so there is probably no need to put yourself in an awkward situation," he said.
