Russian missile cruiser Moskva fires artillery weapons at drills in Black Sea

MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The Russian Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the Moskva missile cruiser, fired artillery weapons on airborne and sea targets during a training exercise in the Black Sea, the fleet's press service said on Friday.

"The Black Sea Fleet's flagship, the Moskva missile cruiser, conducted an artillery exercise at training ranges in the Black Sea as part of maneuvers of the fleet's ships, air force and coast guard units supervised by commander of the fleet Adm. Igor Osipov," the press service said.

Under the exercise scenario, artillery systems were used to engage aerial vehicles of the mock enemy attempting to deliver a missile strike on the fleet's bases, it said.

"The airborne targets were flare bombs, which planes from the fleet's air force dropped on the training ranges," the press service said.

During the exercise, the Moskva cruiser also fired artillery weapons on above-water targets in the sea.

"Screen targets were used to imitate the mock enemy ships at long distances, while mockup floating mines were used for the exercise at short distances," it said.

In all, more than 50 mock enemy airborne and sea targets were destroyed during the drills, the press service said.
