Russian troops, armored vehicles hold live-fire exercise in Tajikistan

YEKATERINBURG. Feb 18 (Interfax) - About 500 motorized infantry troops and armored vehicles of the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan have had a live-fire exercise in the mountains, the Russian Central Military District's press service said on Friday.

"The units marched to the practice area and deployed in battle formations. BTR-82A armored personnel carriers fired 30mm 2A72 guns and 7.62mm Kalashnikov machineguns at targets imitating lightly armored vehicles of a mock enemy," the press service said.

"AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers were fired at the hostiles behind covering terrain. The targets were hit by direct shots and on high-angle trajectory during the day and at night, on distances from 500 to 1,800 meters," the press service said.

Meanwhile, Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles and a mobile ECM team tracked down sabotage and reconnaissance groups of the mock enemy.

"About 500 servicemen and over 80 pieces of weapons and special and military hardware of the Russian military base took part in the two-day exercise at the Lyaur range," the press service said.
