MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Moscow is concerned about the ongoing escalation of tensions in Donbas and believes that the events unfolding in southeastern Ukraine pose a major potential threat, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"What is happening in Donbas is very disquieting news, which provokes concern. It is potentially very dangerous," Peskov said.
Journalists asked Peskov to comment on a statement by U.S. President Joe Biden, who said he was receiving information about Donbas from 17 U.S. intelligence services. "True, the United States has a great variety [of intelligence services]. Everything is fine with that as far the Russian president is concerned. We have fewer agencies but they are no less effective," he said.
As to whether Russian security services could be even more effective than their foreign colleagues, Peskov said, "Let us not brag. Everything is fine with that as far as the Russian president is concerned."
Journalists asked what sources provided information about Donbas to Putin. "Naturally, the Russian president has numerous sources of information, which allow him to see the real picture," Peskov said.
