MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that both he and United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken are interested in having a meeting and that such a meeting would benefit the interests and plans of both Russia and the U.S.
"Secretary of State Blinken and I agreed that, when Russia sends its document and they [the U.S.] familiarize themselves with how we see the situation, he would be willing to meet. Both of us are interested in this. It would benefit our interests and plans," Lavrov said in an interview with RT.
"I'll reiterate that we are interested in making it absolutely clear to our American counterparts and all of their NATO allies that we can't be satisfied with mere promises. Especially considering that, as it turns out, written commitments by heads of state and government obliging the NATO members to fully take into account our interests (not to mention oral guarantees that Russian President Putin has mentioned more than once) aren't worth anything. This won't do," he said.
"We'll seek to make sure that everything is fair. I wouldn't like to resort to jargon, but we have this saying: 'What a real guy says, a real guy must do'. At least certain understandings must be abided by at the international level as well," he said.
