Russian initiative envisages security for all, rather than unilateral concessions - Lavrov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The Russian security guarantee initiative implies the elaboration of principles to ensure everyone's security, rather than unilateral concessions to Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We are sure that it is possible to find other paths to the provision of security not just for Ukraine but also for every other country of the common region, including the Russian Federation," Lavrov said at a press conference on Friday, speaking of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's call for an international document to guarantee the security of Ukraine.

"The search for these paths is part of our initiative, which we have mentioned today, which we are discussing with the United States, and which does not envisage unilateral concessions to the Russian Federation for the sake of its security but implies the coordination of principles to provide security for all," Lavrov said.

Russia is ready to discuss "such projects rather than the security of Ukraine just because Zelensky feels this way," he said.

"We are prepared for this work, and this is the essence of our initiative. Yet it absolutely does not rule out the fulfillment of the Minsk Agreements; quite the opposite, it implies that Kyiv will be fulfilling the Minsk Package of Measures in good faith," Lavrov said.
