LPR positions attacked during humanitarian convoy passage

LUHANSK. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Ukraine attacked Luhansk militia positions when an international humanitarian convoy was leaving a Kyiv-controlled territory, the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR)'s representative in the Joint Control and Coordination Center (JCCC) stated on Friday.

"On February 18, 2022, the armed formations of Ukraine, despite the safety guarantees provided, opened fire in the direction of Geevka and Shchastia with 122mm artillery weapons (17 projectiles) against LPR People's Militia positions near Rayevka and Vesyolaya Gora just as a UN-WHO-UNICEF humanitarian convoy was leaving the Shchastia area temporarily controlled by Ukraine at 12:40 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.," the statement said.

The UN staff said there was no damage to the vehicles, it said.

"Such provocative Ukrainian actions with a view to prompting LPR People's Militia into countering a Ukrainian military aggression constitute a gross violation of international humanitarian law which put at risk the lives of humanitarian mission staff," the statement said.
