SUKHUM. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The media reports on the possible inclusion of Abkhazia in Russia are bogus stories, Abkhaz Security Council Secretary Sergei Shamba said.
Issues relating to a new Eurasian union can be discussed at the level of experts, he said.
"We have the Constitution, which just doesn't allow discussions on this matter at all. Just raising such issues leads to criminal liability. Therefore, it's unrealistic," Shamba said to the information portal Abkhazia Today, commenting on the Russian media reports stating that the Abkhaz president's current visit to Moscow may be connected to "the possible joining of some states to the territory of the Russian Federation," among which Abkhazia was named.
"Such issues are not solved that way, that the president goes to Moscow and suddenly comes back and we are a part of Russia," he said, emphasizing that "such bogus stories have nothing to do with reality."
"The president has left for Moscow on a working visit, today he will have a meeting in the Russian Security Council," he said.
"I should also visit Moscow in the coming days to meet with my colleagues from the Security Council. We are working on a plan of joint actions. The only thing we can never agree on, even discuss this issue, is the loss of our sovereignty, our independence," Shamba said.
At the same time, he said issues relating to a new Eurasian union can be discussed at the level of experts.
"But definitely yes, some issues are being discussed, but it's on the level of expert evaluations, what configurations are possible in the future, they are talking about a Eurasian union like the European Union. The European Union doesn't mean the loss of the sovereignty of the states included in it, either [...] We have only heard from officials that the recognition of Abkhazia is not subject to revision. It has been done more than once, the president and other officials of the Russian Federation have said that," the Security Council secretary said.
