Georgian PM, Borrell discuss South Caucasus security - press service

TBILISI. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has discussed his country's prospects of becoming an EU candidate with the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, the Georgian government's press service said on Friday.

Their meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference focused on regional security and steps towards the realization of the European Commission plan for Georgia to receive the EU candidate status, the statement said.

Georgia has complied with most of the 12 criteria set by the EU and sent certain legislative acts for a Venice Commission conclusion, Garibashvili said.

"The meeting was very positive and this gives us a big hope and stimulus that this year Georgia will receive the EU candidate status," Georgian Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili told Georgian reporters after the meeting in Munich.
