CHISINAU. Feb 20 (Interfax) - An opposition rally in the center of Chisinau has adopted a resolution demanding that the Moldovan budget pays winter utility bills of households.
The rally lasted for 90 minutes and had a turnout of several thousand, an Interfax correspondent reported from the ground on Sunday.
Shor Party deputy Marina Tauber read out the final declaration, which said that several political groups had established the movement For People.
"Within a short period of time, the movement gathered over 300,000 bills from households, which would be presented to the authorities. We demand that the authorities pay gas, electricity and heating bills of all citizens of the country for the three winter months. That's our ultimatum. We give the government seven days and are expecting an answer to our demands," Tauber said.
The protesters will achieve the fulfillment of their demands exclusively by peaceful means, thus disproving destabilization risks claimed by the authorities, she said. As proof of this, the organizers released doves into the sky at the end of the demonstration.
No incidents happened during the rally. Reinforced police patrols were on duty in the center of Chisinau. The General Police Inspectorate said that the police detained six suspicious people before the rally.
