MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has delivered another batch of over 56 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the population of Syria affected by the recent powerful earthquake, the ministry's press service said on Monday.
"Two [Ilyushin] Il-76 planes of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry have delivered humanitarian aid to the Syrian Arab Republic. The cargo includes food supplies, essential items, blankets, pillows, and personal hygiene products," the press service said.
The overall amount of relief supplies delivered by Russian Emergency Situations Ministry personnel to Syria stands at 336 tonnes, it said.
A powerful earthquake in the early hours of February 6 and its subsequent aftershocks resulted in considerable damage and loss of life in several provinces of Turkey and neighboring Syria.
The Anadolu news agency has put the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey at 40,689. According to the Al Jazeera television network, the quake claimed the lives of more than 5,800 people in Syria.
