Armenian foreign minister counts on EU mission contribution to security on border with Azerbaijan

YEREVAN. Feb 20 (Interfax) - A two-year civilian mission in Armenia, announced by the European Union, will be an important contribution to ensuring safety for the residents of the Armenian districts bordering Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.

"At his meeting with the Director of Integrated Approach for Security and Peace, Stefano Tomat, and the Head of the EU Mission [in Armenia], Markus Ritter, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, having highly evaluated the decision to deploy a long-term EU civilian mission, expressed his confidence that the mission will make an important contribution to providing regional stability and safety for the residents of the districts bordering Azerbaijan," the ministry's press service said on Monday.

The EU announced the launch of the mission earlier on Monday.
