Suspension of Russia's participation in New START not threat to security but important message to West - Duma's Slutsky

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russia's decision to suspend its participation in the New START does not pose a threat to global security, Russian State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee head Leonid Slutsky said.

"The suspension of our participation in the New START is not a threat to security but rather an important message to the collective West. Nuclear powers don't lose wars, and our former Western partners should understand that," Slutsky told journalists on Tuesday.

"The suspension of Russia's participation in New START is the only possible appropriate decision after the U.S. declared Russia's strategic defeat as its goal," Slutsky said.
