Aim of Russia's New START suspension to ensure nuclear parity - Peskov

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russia has suspended its participation in the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms (New START) in order to make sure the nuclear parity is maintained, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

"Russia is not quitting [the New START], as the president stressed, it is a suspension. This is very important, because what the United States and other countries have insisted on in terms of inspections is undoable amid today's confrontation," Peskov said in an interview with RT.

"The main aim of our president and our country is to make sure the continuance of this nuclear parity is ensured," he said.
