MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russia will continue to comply with the quantitative limitations set by the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms (New START) despite its decision to suspend it, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"To maintain an adequate degree of predictability and stability in the nuclear-missile sphere, Russia intends to stick to the responsible approach and will continue to adhere strictly to the quantitative limitations imposed by it [New START] on Strategic Offensive Arms within the limits of the life cycle of the Treaty," the ministry's website said.
Further, Russia will continue to take part in exchanging notifications with America regarding intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missile launches on the basis of the relevant 1988 agreement between the USSR and United States, the ministry said.
It further sets out in detail the circumstances, which led "the Russian side to conclude that the U.S. allowed a substantial breach of New START, i.e. one that is of principled importance for the realization of the Treaty objective and goals."
