Russia's decision to suspend New START derives from U.S. foreign policy - State Duma speaker

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Russia's decision to suspend the fulfillment of the New START treaty derives from the U.S. foreign policy and Washington's rejection of the Russian global security proposals, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.

"The current situation is a result of Washington's foreign policy. By stopping the fulfillment of its obligations and rejecting global security proposals of our country, the United States has ruined the international stability architecture. They have plunged the world into a state of conflicts and challenges," Volodin said on Telegram on Wednesday.

In his opinion, "members of the U.S. Congress should realize the situation created through the fault of Biden and its possible consequences."

"Speaking with Russia about the security of our country and citizens in the language of ultimatums is inadmissible," Volodin said.

Later today, the State Duma will process a bill on Russia's suspended fulfillment of the treaty between the United States of America and the Russian Federation on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (New START) submitted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Volodin said.
