MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Western countries are unwilling to launch a thorough investigation of the Nord Stream gas pipeline blasts and are seeking to bury this topic, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
While commenting on the outcome of the UN Security Council's meeting on the Nord Stream pipelines, Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that, on one hand, Russia "has managed to draw attention to the need for a thorough and transparent investigation."
"On the other hand, we can see a blind wall of the reluctance of countries from the collective West to do so. At the same time, we can see their wish not to focus on this topic and to make it run into sand eventually. We will keep working to prevent them from doing so," Peskov said.
It is necessary "to confirm the suspicions supported by certain rather detailed inquiries as to who could be behind this act of sabotage," he said.
What happened to the Nord Stream pipelines "can and should be defined as an act of terrorism on the energy infrastructure critical for the European continent," Peskov said.
When asked whether Moscow will keep trying to access the investigations conducted by Western countries, Peskov said, "Obviously, our capacities are limited here, because this is a matter of territorial waters of other countries, which are categorically denying Russia the right to take part in the investigation and hold its own investigation in their territorial waters."
"Indeed, we view this as a very negative phenomenon, which does not help to find the truth and identify the culprits behind this terror attack," Peskov said, adding that Russia would continue doing everything it can although its abilities are limited.
