CSTO discusses terrorism threats from Afghanistan

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Specialists of the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) discussed terrorism threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan on Wednesday.

"On February 22, 2023, representatives of the CSTO Secretariat held a meeting with Victor Shtoyunda, an expert of the Monitoring Team UN Security Council Sanction Committees on the ISIL, Al-Qaeda and the Taliban [terrorist organizations banned in Russia], who is paying a working visit to Moscow," the CSTO said.

There was an exchange of opinions on the situation in Afghanistan, during which Shtoyunda presented vital evaluations of modern terrorist threats emanating from the Afghan territory, the press release said.

Representatives of the CSTO Secretariat informed him about the content of the discussion, which took place during a meeting of the working group on Afghanistan of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers on December 8, 2022. The parties agreed to continue regular contacts to exchange information on the development of the situation in Afghanistan, the report said.

The CSTO comprises Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
