Chinese-Russian relations unaffected by pressure from third parties - Chinese diplomat in meeting with Putin (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - The relations between China and Russia have withstood pressure from the international community and are unaffected by influence from third parties, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party's Central Committee and Office director of the Chinese Communist Party's Central Foreign Affairs Commission, said.

"Chinese-Russian relations have withstood the pressure from the international community and are developing in a stable way amid the very difficult, changing international situation. Although crises constantly occur, but there are opportunities in crises, and opportunities also turn into crises, it's a historical experience, and we need to make active efforts to react to crises and opportunities to deepen our cooperation," Wang Yi said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Chinese-Russian relations are not against third countries "and are unaffected by pressure from third parties," he said. "Because we have a very strong foundation in terms of economy, politics, and culture. We have a lot of experience. It's exactly because we maintain multipolarity and democratization in international relations together. It is fully in line with the current and historical tendencies, it's also in the interests of most countries," he said.

He confirmed that China and Russia are ready to show political resolve to deepen mutual trust and to strengthen strategic cooperation, to expand practical cooperation in a comprehensive way to secure the interests of the two countries and to contribute to the development of the whole world.

He thanked Putin for the meeting and gave him "sincere regards and wishes from President Xi Jinping."

The last time the leaders spoke by videoconference to discuss achievements of bilateral relations and to set further development plans, he said.

"I was also present then, and you said the Russian side invited Mr Wang Yi to visit Russia as soon as possible. Therefore, I visited Russia on time, exactly to implement our leaders' agreements in a comprehensive way to achieve better results of our cooperation in various spheres," Wang Yi said.
