Russian Pacific Fleet corvette holds artillery drill in Peter the Great Gulf

VLADIVOSTOK. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The Sovershenny corvette of the Russian Pacific Fleet has held an artillery drill in the Peter the Great Gulf, the fleet press service said on Tuesday.

"According to the exercise scenario, the corvette detected a mock enemy's ship headed to the Russian territorial waters. As the Sovershenny corvette tried to contact with the suspected trespasser, the mock enemy simulated the firing of a missile at the Pacific Fleet's ship," the press service said.

Once the missile launch was detected, the corvette's air defense locked the airborne target and shot it down by an AK-630M artillery system.

The corvette trained the full sequence of air defense with radar and electronic jamming. The mock enemy's ship entered the kill zone of the corvette's artillery and was destroyed by a 100mm A-190 artillery gun. A towed target impersonated the mock enemy.

The exercise was held in accordance with the fleet's combat training plan.
