Peskov denies WSJ reporter Gershkovich's arrest was sanctioned by Putin

MOSCOW. April 13 (Interfax) - Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has denied Western media reports alleging that President Vladimir Putin personally approved the arrest of American journalist Evan Gershkovich in an espionage case.

"No, this is not the president's prerogative. Special services are in charge of that, and they do their job," Peskov told journalists on Thursday, when asked to comment on the relevant reports.

"I'd like to remind you once again that the journalist was caught red-handed," he said.
