MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - The Russian Pacific Fleet is being put on high alert for a surprise readiness check, which also involves the Aerospace Forces, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"At 9 a.m. [Vladivostok time] today, all of the Pacific Fleet was raised for being put on high alert," Shoigu said at a meeting with commanding officers on Friday.
The check involves the Airborne Forces, as well as military and logistics units, he said.
"On the orders from the supreme commander-in-chief of the Russian Armed Forces, the Russian Defense Ministry is continuing the practice of surprise checks to assess the status and to raise the readiness of military commands and forces for the accomplishment of their missions in every strategic sector," Shoigu said.
