Criminal case opened into terrorist attack in connection with attempted strike on Kremlin - Russian Investigative Committee (Part 2)

MOSCOW. May 3 (Interfax) - A criminal case into a terrorist attack has been opened after a drone attack on the Kremlin was averted, the Russian Investigative Committee said on its Telegram channel on Wednesday.

"The Main Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case based on the occurrence of a terrorist attack connected with an attempt to strike the Kremlin residence of the president of Russia," the report said.

According to the Committee, "two drones targeted the Kremlin."

"The drones were incapacitated as a result of timely actions taken by military and special services using radioelectronic defense systems," the Investigative Committee said.

The Committee said it believes the attempted attack was initiated by "the Kiev regime."

The presidential press service said earlier that an attempt to strike the Russian president's Kremlin residence using drones was made in the early hours of Wednesday. The president was not hurt. According to the statement, the drones were incapacitated.

The Kremlin views such actions as "a premeditated terror attack and an attempt on the life of the president of the Russian Federation, shortly before Victory Day [and] the parade on May 9, which is expected to be attended by foreign guests, among others," the press service said.

"The Russian side reserves the right to retaliate wherever and whenever it deems necessary," it said.
