Russian warships return to Baltiysk after long-range deployment

MOSCOW. May 10 (Interfax) - A unit of warships consisting of the Soobrazitelny and Stoiky corvettes has returned to Baltiysk after accomplishing their missions in the Baltic, Northern and Mediterranean Seas and the Atlantic Ocean, the press service for the Russian Baltic Fleet said on Wednesday.

"The ships of the Baltic Fleet accomplished the tasks of their long-distance maritime deployment within the Russian Navy's permanent taskforce in the Mediterranean Sea. In line with the integrated program, they held numerous drills with warships of the Pacific, Northern and Black Sea Fleets, practicing joint tasks at the inter-fleet level," the press service said.

During the deployment, which continued for more than seven months, the corvettes conducted several dozen different exercises and called at ports in Egypt, Algeria and Syria, covering more than 38,000 nautical miles in total, it said.

"The ships returned after the long-distance deployment in good technical condition, and are ready to continue tackling their tasks after stocking up on necessary supplies," the press service said.

The Baltic Fleet's ships left for the Mediterranean Sea in October 2022 on a long-range deployment as part of the Russian Navy's combat training plan, it said.
