MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - Sukhoi Su-24 bombers and Su-27 fighter aircraft have practiced destroying mock enemy surface and coastal targets in the Baltic Sea, the Russian Baltic Fleet said on Friday.
"During the exercise, the aircraft performed more than 20 sorties to practice using air-launched ordnance at daytime and nighttime. More than ten aircrews and over 50 engineers and technicians were involved in the flights," it said.
"The flights of Russian planes over the Baltic Sea strictly complied with international airspace rules," it said.
The Su-24 bombers practiced striking targets imitating a group of enemy surface ships, with cover provided by a wing of Su-27 fighters, it said.
"Baltic Fleet warships currently performing their combat and training duties at sea posed as enemy ships," it said.
The Su-24s also practiced striking a convoy of mock enemy armored vehicles and automobiles at a training range in the eastern part of the Kaliningrad region, the fleet said.
"The aircraft conducted precision bombing at altitudes varying from 200 to 2,000 meters and at speeds of up to 1,000 km/h. They practiced maximum-performance combat maneuvers and actions to evade mock enemy fighter aircraft and air defense systems," it said.
