MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - Fifty-five percent of Russians have described the special military operation as the most important event of last week, the Public Opinion Foundation said in a statement on its website on Friday.
The respondents explain their answer with the need to provide national security and support for operation participants.
Speaking of events related to the special military operation, the respondents mentioned the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant's destruction (18%), drone attacks on the Russian territory (6%), attacks on the Belgorod region (4%), the Ukrainian counteroffensive (1%) and taking control of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut) (1%). Another 30% of respondents highlighted the special military operation in general.
Besides the special military operation, respondents mentioned natural disasters in Russia (1%), accidents and fires (1%), the shark attack on a tourist in Egypt (1%), other events in Russia (2%) and in the world (1%).
Forty-one percent of respondents were undecided.
The Public Opinion Foundation polled 1,500 respondents aged 18 and up in 104 populated localities in 53 regions of Russia on June 9-11.
The share of respondents, who call the special military operation the most important event of the week, was varying from 30% to slightly over 40%, in Public Opinion Foundation polls since the end of February. The pollster said on May 5 that the share reached 34%, while going up to 42% in early March. Another spike in the number of respondents affirming the significance of the special military operation occurred in mid-May, when it stood at 44%. Forty-five percent of Russians named the special military operation the most important event of the week on June 2, versus 53% on June 9.
