MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax) - A Moscow justice of the peace has imposed an administrative fine of 1.5 million rubles on the Wikimedia Foundation for not removing content from Wikipedia that contains train surfing propaganda, an Interfax correspondent said in a report.
"To penalize Wikimedia Foundation Inc. with an administrative fine of 1.5 million rubles," Justice of the Peace from Judicial District No. 422 in Moscow's Tagansky District Timur Vakhrameyev said.
The Wikimedia Foundation was found guilty of failing to remove illegal content.
The materials of the administrative case presented in court indicate that Wikimedia was accused of not removing a Wikipedia train surfing propaganda video, which had been found on the resource by the Russian Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.
This is Wikimedia's 11th penalty in 2023 for failure to delete illegal content. The 11 fines imposed on the company total 17.4 million rubles.
A lawyer representing Wikimedia asked the court to close the case, citing, among other reasons, procedural violations during the proceedings.
