Western coalition planes perform dangerous maneuvering near civilian aircraft in Syria - Russian military

MOSCOW. July 13 (Interfax) - Ten violations of the Syrian airspace by warplanes of the U.S.-led coalition have been recorded in the past 24 hours, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria Oleg Gurinov said on Wednesday.

"Nine violations of the Syrian airspace by two duos of F-16 fighter jets, two duos of Rafael fighter jets and one duo of Typhoon fighter jets have been observed in the al-Tanf zone through which international air routes go," Gurinov said.

"Such illegal flights of coalition warplanes create the risk of aviation incidents with civilian aircraft on regular flights," he said.

The Syrian unified air traffic control center said on July 11 that 24 civilian flights were performed on international air routes in southern Syria between 12:02 p.m. and 6:32 p.m. under its supervision consistent with the approved flight plan and ICAO regulations.

While flying over al-Tanf, the civilian aircraft reported four to five minutes of dangerous maneuvering by coalition warplanes, which put passengers at risk and forced the crews to switch to manual control.

"Such actions of coalition aircraft demonstrate neglect for the norms of international law, endanger lives and health of civilians, and could be described as an act of aggression against civilian aircraft, which pose no danger to coalition forces," Gurinov said.

He also reported ten violations of the deconfliction protocol by flights of unmanned aerial vehicles of the U.S.-led coalition uncoordinated with Russia.
