MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Russian forces have repelled four Ukrainian attacks in the Zaporozhye sector, three in the Donetsk sector, two in the Krasny Liman sector, and another four in the Kupyansk sector over the past day, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Wednesday.
"In the Zaporozhye sector, four attacks by assault units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' 65th Mechanized Brigade were repelled by the professional actions of units of the Russian contingent supported by aircraft and artillery in the vicinity of Rabotino in the Zaporozhye region," Konashenkov said at a press briefing.
In that area, Ukrainian forces lost up to 80 troops, four trucks, Krab and Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery systems, one D-30 and three M119 howitzers, and a U.S.-made AN/TPQ-48 counter-mortar radar, he said.
"In the Donetsk sector, units from the southern group of forces supported by aircraft and artillery repelled three attacks by Ukrainian assault units near Nevelskoye, Mayorsk and Kurdyumovka in the Donetsk People's Republic [DPR]", Konashenkov said.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 180 troops, three armored combat vehicles, three trucks, Akatsiya and Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, and D-20 and D-30 howitzers," he said.
"In the Krasny Liman sector, units from the central group of forces supported by aircraft, artillery and heavy flamethrowers repelled two attacks by assault units from the Ukrainian Armed Forces' 21st Mechanized Brigade and the 5th Brigade of the National Guard near Yampolovka in the DPR and Chervonaya Dibrova in the Lugansk People's Republic [LPR]," Konashenkov said.
"In that area, the enemy lost up to 60 troops, two armored combat vehicles, two pickup trucks and a D-30 howitzer over the past day," he said.
In the southern Donetsk sector, aircraft and artillery hit concentrations of Ukrainian troops and hardware in the DPR, in addition to neutralizing two sabotage and reconnaissance groups, Konashenkov said.
In that area, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 145 troops both killed and wounded, one tank, three trucks, and a U.S.-made M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzer.
In the Kupyansk sector, four attacks by assault units from the 67th Mechanized Brigade, the 68th Jaeger Brigade, the 25th Airborne Brigade and the 95th Air Assault Brigade were repelled in the Kharkov region and the LPR, Konashenkov said.
"In the Kherson sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 20 troops, three trucks and a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer to combined gunfire," he said.
