Estonia announces pending Defense Forces logistics exercise

TALLINN. Aug 23 (Interfax) - The largest exercise held in Estonia since it regained independence in 1991, Ussisonad (Snake Tongue), will begin next week to train personnel in supply and logistics for the Defense Forces.

"The supply and logistics service will provide about 10,000 Ground Defense Forces reservists with nearly 500,000 pieces of hardware and equipment during the exercise," the press service for the Defense Forces' Staff said on Wednesday.

"Providing [them] with elements of equipment is one of the biggest tasks to be fulfilled during the exercise. For now, my team has done a very good job, and I expect them to successfully accomplish their missions," Maj. Tanel Kurisoo, an officer from a supply battalion's staff, said.

The supply battalion will provide the training personnel with weapons, ammunition, fuel and special hardware.

The active stage of the exercise will be held in territorial defense districts throughout Estonia between August 28 and October 8.
