Lithuania approves plan for military assistance to Ukraine worth 200 million euros - president

VILNIUS. Aug 23 (Interfax/BNS) - Lithuania has approved a long-term plan for military assistance to Ukraine worth around 200 million euros, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said on Wednesday.

Nauseda, who is visiting Ukraine, discussed military assistance and Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

According to the presidential office, Nauseda said at their meeting that Lithuania will continue providing military assistance. "Lithuania will continue helping Ukraine with weapons and munitions, training and financial assistance," he said.

The military hardware supplied by Lithuania, NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems, will reach Ukraine in September, he said.

The decisions made at the NATO summit in Vilnius should speed up NATO-Ukraine rapprochement, Nauseda said.

Nauseda also discussed the process of Ukraine's accession to the European Union with Zelensky, and said Lithuania strongly supports Ukraine's European integration ambitions and will support the country's EU integration.

"No one doubts that Ukraine is Europe. The future of Ukraine is in the European Union [...] Lithuania is ready to help Ukraine both with reforms and with further European integration," Nauseda said.

The NATO summit was held in Vilnius on July 11-12.
